Australia’s leading diagnostic imaging company, I-MED Radiology Network, has appointed Dr Shrey Viranna as CEO and Executive Director

17 January 2020

Shrey joins I-MED from his current role as Group CEO of Life Healthcare Group, a South African headquartered healthcare company. Life Healthcare has a market capitalisation of A$3.8 billion and FY19 revenues of A$2.6 billion, with a presence in 14 countries across South Africa, Europe and India.

Shrey trained and practised as a medical doctor in South Africa and, before joining Life Healthcare Group, he ran the healthcare, behavioural economics-based wellness and credit card businesses for Discovery, an independent South African financial services business. Prior to this, Shrey was a partner at McKinsey & Co, where he established and led the healthcare practice in Africa.

Shrey has direct experience in the diagnostic imaging sector through Life Healthcare’s imaging business, Alliance Medical, the leading independent imaging provider in the UK and Western Europe.

Silvia Oteri, I-MED Director and partner at I-MED’s owner Permira, said:
“We are delighted to have Shrey join I-MED. Our vision is for I-MED to be the most respected and trusted medical imaging specialist in the world. Shrey’s experience as a doctor, management consultant and CEO of a multi-billion dollar company makes him an ideal leader for I-MED as we embark on our next stage of growth.”

I-MED Chairman Paul McClintock said:
“At I-MED we are fortunate to have strong backing from Permira as we execute our long-term strategy. There is a great deal of strategic activity underway across our business; in the last year we have significantly expanded our clinic footprint and we are now investing to develop artificial intelligence technology that will improve imaging services for patients and health practitioners. We are also actively exploring opportunities for international expansion.

“Shrey has a strong track record in health care management in operations and strategic development. I look forward to welcoming him to I-MED and to harnessing his expertise.”

Dr Viranna is in the process of moving to Australia and will start at I-MED at the beginning of March. Clare Battellino, who has been I-MED’s CFO since 2012 and has acted as CEO for the past five months, will continue in her previous role.
