Peterson brings more than four decades of leadership in financial and information services, including more than a decade as CEO of S&P Global and 26 years at Citigroup
New York – 2 November 2026 – Douglas Peterson, former President and Chief Executive Officer of S&P Global, is joining Permira, the global investment firm, as a Senior Adviser to its Services team. He will be based in New York.
Doug’s career spans more than four decades in financial and information services. He led S&P Global for over a decade, during which the company transformed from McGraw Hill Financial into a global provider of data, analytics and benchmarks. Under his leadership, S&P Global completed the acquisition and integration of IHS Markit in 2022, expanded internationally and moved early on technology and AI, with market capitalisation rising from $16 billion to more than $150 billion. Before S&P Global, Doug spent 26 years at Citigroup, where he served as Chief Operating Officer of Citibank, CEO of Citigroup Japan and Chief Auditor.
Over the past decade, the Permira funds have been active investors in the core infrastructure of private markets – the fund administration, governance, data, analytics and advisory businesses the industry relies on to operate – with investments including Alter Domus, Carne Group, JTC, Octus, Clearwater Analytics, Acuity Analytics, Kroll and Tricor. Drawing on his experience running a large, regulated, data-driven business through sustained growth and transformation, Doug will advise management teams on developing and executing transformational value creation plans, as well as supporting the Services team on shaping the portfolio and due diligence on new investments.
Dipan Patel and Brian Ruder, Co-Managing Partners and Co-CEOs at Permira, said: “Doug is an exceptional executive with a top-decile track-record in delivering growth at scale, and we are delighted to welcome him to Permira. Private markets are institutionalising fast, and value is accruing to the infrastructure it’s built on. Fund services, governance, data and analytics are long-time thematics for our Services franchise, and our portfolio companies and new investments will benefit tremendously from Doug being in the Permira family.”
Daniel Brenhouse and Philip Muelder, Partners and Co-Heads of Services at Permira, said: “Doug ran S&P Global for more than a decade and fundamentally reshaped it along the way. He knows what it takes to grow a data and financial services franchise across markets, through cycles and through a major integration, and he understands the regulatory and client dynamics that define this sector. Permira has been one of the most active investors in the infrastructure behind private markets over the past decade, and Doug’s experience will be invaluable to the management teams we back in the years ahead.”
Douglas Peterson, Senior Adviser at Permira, commented: “Permira has a long history of backing services businesses and helping them grow through investment in people, technology and innovation. Having spent my career in data, analytics and financial services, I see enormous opportunity in helping these businesses grow. I am looking forward to working with Daniel, Philip and the team, and with the leadership of their portfolio companies, as they build the next generation of leaders in this sector.”
Doug serves on the boards of Morgan Stanley, the National Bureau of Economic Research, the Japan Society and Claremont McKenna College. He holds an MBA from the Wharton School and an undergraduate degree from Claremont McKenna College.
