Sustainability

Having a long-term approach to sustainability-related issues and delivering a better outcome for our investors are important parts of the investment strategy for the Permira funds.

We believe that having a well-defined, responsible and proactive approach to considering sustainability risks and opportunities in the investment lifecycle can positively support the performance and value of portfolio companies for the Buyout and Growth funds and position them for the future long after exit.

Responsible Investing

Our Responsible Investing Framework guides investment teams to identify sub-sectors or activities which may be excluded from investment, misaligned with the firm’s sector or strategy focus, and/or that have heightened sustainability risk profiles or enhanced sustainability-related value creation opportunities. The Framework supports our latest Buyout and selected Credit funds.

The purpose of the Framework is to protect Permira and its funds from material sustainability related risks and support value creation initiatives in underlying portfolio companies, aligning with our fiduciary duties and seeking to deliver better outcomes for our investors.

Integrating sustainability considerations into the investment process

Understanding the key levers that drive business improvement, including sustainability matters, is an important part of the investment approach for the Buyout funds.

From the very start of the investment process, we are committed to actively engaging with portfolio company management teams as they seek to address material risks and value enhancement opportunities relating to sustainability.

In our view, having a responsible and forward-looking approach to sustainability can strengthen portfolio resilience and drive long-term value beyond the funds’ ownership.

1
Selection

Potential investments for certain funds are evaluated pre-investment on a case-by-case basis, taking into account sustainability risks*

* Potential investments are considered on a case by case basis as part of the pre-investment process, where consideration is given to sustainability risks. There may be instances where the Buyout or selected Credit funds would not invest in certain sectors or sub-sectors due to the sustainability risks impacting the value of an investment.
2
Entry

Assessing sustainability risks and opportunities are an important part of our due diligence, including topics such as compliance, reputational risks and value enhancement opportunities

The approach to due diligence varies by strategy, reflecting levels of access to information. Permira Credit CLO funds apply a separate risk rating framework.
3
Stewardship

Material sustainability risks and opportunities are integrated into action plans and ongoing monitoring over the lifetime of each investment, as relevant

The focus is on the Buyout funds, where we have the greatest influence. The level and nature of ongoing engagement on sustainability matters varies by fund and strategy, considering the level of influence and control.
4
Exit

Generally, progress made on sustainability matters is closely monitored during our ownership, aiming to ensure investments are well-positioned for the future

The focus is on the Buyout funds, where we have the greatest influence.
